Red Mountain Open Farm got its name from the Red Mountain, which is the hill between the Farm and Donore Village. It is believed by some researchers that the colour of the sunrise on the morning of the Winter Solstice was the original inspiration for the name of the hill over which that sunrise occurs when viewed from Newgrange. The hill is called Red Mountain.

Located just five minutes from the Newgrange Monument the Open Farm boasts the most extensive indoor facilities of all open farms in Ireland. We believe these indoor facilities are important given the unpredictable nature of our Irish weather. Easter

Our Easter Event @ Red Mountain Open Farm will run from:

Saturday 12th of April to Sunday 27th of April daily 10:30am to 5pm including Bank Holiday Monday.

CLOSED MONDAY 14TH OF APRIL

With plenty of activities in our large open barns so regardless of the weather, you’re guaranteed to have a good time!

Participate in our annual Easter Treasure Hunt! This Treasure Hunt is exclusively on Saturday the 19th of April, Sunday the 20th of April and Monday the 21st of April. The Treasure hunt runs all day and every child gets a prize!

  • See our day old chicks.

School Tours

Here at Red Mountain Open Farm all school tours are fully guided and our exceptional facilities ensure pupils will have a good time regardless of the weather. (ensure pupils have suitable clothing and a packed lunch)

What do you need to know?

  • Book your School Tour today through the purple button ‘Book Now’ below!
  • All school tours require a deposit of €100 to confirm your date
  • All school tours must be paid for in advance or on arrival on the day of the tour. Refunds (due to students been absent) will be refunded on the same day.
  • School Tour available dates from the 14th of April to 26th of June (Tuesday’s to Fridays only 10am to 1pm)

A typical visit to Red Mountain Open Farm includes the following:

  • On arrival you will be greeted by your guide who will guide you to our Coffee Barn where the students can drop off their lunch bags.
  • From there you will be guided to the following
  • The Animal Shed where you will see  the Pygmy Goats, Pony, Lambs, Rabbits, Geese, Hens, Chickens and others.
  • Village Activity Shed  with play areas & peddle tractors to drive
  • Coffee Barn for the lunch break and complementary tea and coffee for the teachers
  •  Blue Barrell Express for your train journey and play in our Art Room.
  • Farm walk. Where you will meet our outdoor animals, Goats, Sheep, Geese Ponies and our Highland cattle while enjoying our Farm Walk.
  • Red Mountain play areas with Swings, Slides, Covered Sand Pit and Play Towers.
  • All teachers go free and get a complimentary tea / coffee

    • From Dublin, Navan, Slane via the N2:
      Follow the signs for Newgrange Monument (2 km south of Slane). Take the fourth turn to the right opposite railings on the left, then take the first right.
    • From Drogheda:
      Take the Donore Road into the village of Donore and follow signs for Newgrange Monument. After the Newgrange Monument take the first left turn (at the railings on the right) and then take the first right.
